Seventeenth Annual Tri-Tip Sevens Tournament at Biddle Park
in Arroyo Grande, California on Saturday, August 31, 2001
This year the San Luis Obispo Rugby Football Club will be hosting the Seventeenth Annual Tri-Tip Sevens Tournament on August 31. The Tri-Tip Sevens is a quality tournament that gives clubs of the Los Angeles, San Diego, Central Valley, and San Francisco Bay areas the chance to compete against each other because of San Luis Obispo's relative location, which is about halfway between these Northern and Southern California cities. The SLORFC is also the proud host of the best post-match feed in the state of California, which spills over into the post-tournament barbecue and sing-a-long, which is known on all eleven continents and beyond. A much talked about addition to the festivities in the past couple years has been the Saturday night Pub Crawl through downtown San Luis Obispo. Traveling East to West, the Crawl is usually made-up of about six bars, each with a drink special for those who are deserving. Teams from as far away as Wales and Australia have been victorious in the tournament which the Los Gatos RFC managed to control for '95, '96, '97, '98, and '00. Once again, the format of the tournament will allow the Club to support sixteen teams at two fields, using Biddle Park and Riverbottom Stadium. Each team is guaranteed four games, and registration costs will cover the tournament entry fee, 10 barbecue tickets, and souvenir cups for drink specials during the Crawl. Come be part of the central coast rugby experience, you won't regret it.
For more information, further details, possible directions, and general knowledge on the Tri-Tip Sevens Tournament, send an e-mail to Paul Cappellano.
Registration Costs:
- $175 on or before August 24
- $200 after August 24, and at the door
- Discounts for seconds sides
- First 8 teams to pay will play all games at Championship site
This year's tournament hopes to be another stepping stone for future events put on by the SLO Rugby Club. There will be food and drink, programs, t-shirts, a raffle, and tournament mugs that will not only allow consumption from the beer garden, but will also get drink specials that night at designated downtown drinking establishments during the post-tournament Pub Crawl, which has become the talk of the rugby community in the past few years.
Along with the official tournament shirt and Pub Crawl mugs, the SLO Rugby support group will be selling team badges, pins, stickers, license plate frames, raffle tickets, and meal tickets for the Aftermath barbecue festivities. The first matches are scheduled for 9:00am at Biddle Park, with the captain's meeting at 8:15am.
So grab your friends; grab your beach chair; grab your sunscreen; and come spend the day getting a taste of the passion we call rugby at the Sixteenth Annual Tri-Tip Sevens Tournament on September 8, 2001 in Arroyo Grande. CHEERS!
